While graffiti certainly did turn into an art form, there has always been a prejudice towards it not really being art. By going back to to the early days of modern urban graffiti— before the days of full sized pieces, back when it was all about getting fame by the amount of “tags” and “throw-ups” one could spread across the city— I aimed to abstract the low level spray painted scrawls with the intention of elevating them to something more akin to, well…art.
